Our Story

The African Feminist was founded with the aim of changing the existing narrative about black lives in mainstream media and to encourage the discussion of feminism and the social, political and economic issues that affect Africa and its diaspora.

The African Feminist is building a community of leaders, thinkers and innovators, who seek to educate and be educated on the issues that impact black lives. We seek to uncover and examine the stories that go untold.

“The writer cannot be a mere storyteller; he cannot be a mere teacher; he cannot merely x-ray society’s weaknesses, its ills, its perils. He or she must be actively involved shaping its present and its future.”

— Ken Saro Wiwa
